to give a little background, my parents are in their late 50s.
around a year ago, my elder dad got laid off from his job.
he worked as a auto mechanic making ok money.
Jehovah will provide for sure. Through some sort mental power (as he did with King David when he lift the census) Jehovah will control your mind and tell you to support your parents. You may think that you are doing a good deed but no credit goes to you. It's all Jehovah.
You have to bring some reality to your parents. It's your duty since you are the mature person in the family and likely the most affected by their irresponsible behavior.

one interesting but truly tragic is the number of jwhovah's witnesses who commit suicie.. now i suspect that if a person commits suicide shortly before or after they are disfellowshipped then the elders would say that person wasn't a witness or that they had done something so terrible that they were too guilty to admit it and by their action of committing suicide they pretty much declared they were no longer a jw.. yup fancy talk to make sure any crap didn't fall on them.. so my question.. do you know of cases like this?
if so then can you answer a few more questions.. had this person been dfed or in real danger of being dfed or whatever the equivalent is if they were never baptized?.
I don't think the religion's policies are entirely responsible for the apparent high suicide rate of JW's and ex-JW's. I think rather the religion pushes those people who already have some predesposition (genetic or life experience) to depression or suicidal actions. I, however, think that religioous leader have a great deal of power to save those people from themselves. That's where the guilt of the Watchtower resides; having the ability to save someone, rather decides to push them over the cliff.

Your posts are way better than other posts by other "knowledgeable, expert" posters... and you don't even claim to have a law degree, or have great education, or be affluent. But mainly you inform and educate, rather than demean all the other members of this board by calling them ignorant, uneducated, unsophisticated.

I don't come to this site as often, and I post even less, but learning about the possibility of your family not being included in the 2014 or 2015 publishers count and "in the cult" statistics makes me very happy and I needed to write my own comment. I wish you and your family the best. In spite of the almost certain rough times in the near future, I know you will be glad that this phase of your life is almost over.

this is my first post here.. i was raised in "the truth", and am an ex-bethelite who worked in brooklyn for several years back in the 90's.
a few years after i left bethel, i started to become disillusioned after doing research about the society and reading crisis of conscience (i know..i wasn't supposed to do that lol).

I am an agnostic (as an attempt to remain neutral and objective), but I lean towards no God or the God of Einstein and Spinoza, that is, an impersonal force that maintains the laws of Physics that regulate the universe. At 13 or 14 I left religion for good, but it is during the last 2 years that I have learned about the Bible, JW's, Christianity and Judaism. To keep it short, an in-depth study of all those four subjects is likely to lead anyone with an open mind and a strong interest in truth in the direction of atheism or agnosticism. Higher and lower criticism of the Bible is far more interesting than any religious Biblical study you have ever had, or any meeting or convention you have ever attended, but it most certainly will push you away from your belief in a personal God.
